Ravensburg Police Station

The Ravensburg Police Headquarters is conceived as a civic building that mediates between public space and controlled institutional use. Positioned between the city to the east and operational areas to the west, the project integrates security requirements into the architectural form rather than expressing them as barriers.
A new public square defines the eastern edge of the site, strengthening pedestrian access from the nearby transport stop and establishing a clear civic presence. Fenced zones are limited to essential operational areas, allowing most of the plot to remain permeable and legible. Vehicular circulation is carefully organised, separating visitor access from secure police operations without fragmenting the overall spatial clarity.
The building is structured around four interconnected volumes organised around a central foyer and atrium. This core distributes circulation vertically and horizontally, bringing daylight into the centre of the plan and reinforcing orientation within a complex programme. While each functional block can operate independently when required, the spatial organisation encourages visual continuity and internal connectivity.
Rather than emphasising institutional rigidity, the project introduces intermediate spaces at the intersections of corridors and departments. These areas allow informal interaction and reinforce communication within the building. Upper-level terraces and green roofs extend workspaces outward, improving environmental comfort and offering moments of relief within the operational environment.
Material and structural strategies prioritise durability, energy performance, and long-term adaptability. Vegetated roofs and integrated photovoltaic panels contribute to environmental efficiency while supporting acoustic and thermal comfort.
